Salute to the Champions - New York Yankees

November 6th, 2009

They still call it a ticker tape parade even though they no longer
use ticker tape but the parade down the Canyon of Heroes for the
World Champion New York Yankees was knee deep in confetti.

Over One Million cheering, screaming fans came to salute NY Yankees.
New York throws some of the greatest parades anywhere in the world.

Being a native New Yorker myself I admit my bias, but it’s hard to dispute
the fact that over a million stark raving Yankees fans starting lining up as
early as 5 o’clock in the morning in the cold, to get a glimpse of their heroes.

Just to put it in perspective, 1 million+ fans is more than the entire population
of Washington DC with a couple hundred thousand extra thrown in for good
measure. And this is on a Friday morning (which is workday and school day).

The 12 block long Canyon of Heroes which runs from the downtown NYC Wall St
area along Broadway to City Hall was packed like sardines with adoring fans.

The chants and cheers of the crowd was deafening as the New York Yankee
heroes paraded by on Yankee Floats. Hideki Matsui, the MVP was in the lead float.

Some fans came from as far away as Japan just to see “Godzilla” up close.
The Yankee players were spread out on separate floats and the crown went crazy
every time one of the Yankee players came by.

The Yankee players would graciously step off the floats and thank and acknowledge the
fans by shaking hands and signing autographs. New York has some of the greatest fans
in the world who always fill up the new swanky Yankee stadium in good times and bad.

A-Rod looking cool and confident and sporting a fedora hat and dark shades looked
more like a rock star than a baseball player and was greeted by the crowd as such.
It reminded me of Beatle-mania.

And when the crowd favorite, Captain Derek Jeter rolled by, the fans went even crazier.
Some women were waving signs that said… Derek Jeter - Marry Me!

There was so much confetti floating in the air it looked like a snow storm blizzard.
Standing next to Derek Jeter was Jay-Z (who along with Alicia Keys wrote the fantastic
Championship song for the Yankees). Derek’s mom and dad were also on the float
taking in the wonderment of it all.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly was there along with Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The NYPD kept the crown under control yet was flexible enough to allow people
to get up close and personal to the players. It all went off without any incidents.

Everyone came to see the champs for the same experience. To have fun, and…
To honor the World Champion - NY Yankees!

NY Yankees - 27th World Series Championship

November 5th, 2009

The New York Yankees beat the defending Philadelphia Phillies 7-3.
The win is their 27th World Series title.

It’s the first time since New York was attacked on 9/11 they’ve been champions.
And it is fitting they won the World Series Chanpionship in their new ballpark.

Hideki Matsui was the man of the hour with a 2 run home run, a 2 run single,
and a 2 run double for a total of 6 RBI’s out of the scored 7 Yankee Runs.

And he doesn’t even speak English (at least not on camera).

It just goes to show you that anyone with the drive and determination can
“make it” because the USA is the land of opportunity.

Interestingly enough, most of the Yankee players were recruited from college.
It seems if you want to make it in professional sports, you need to make a
name for youself while playing college sports, otherwise the recruiters
will never find you.

But with the US economy in turmoil, college is becoming less affordable
for many families. In addition to the affordability problem to get into and
remain in University comes one of the unexpected and most difficult challenges…

PAYING YOUR STUDENT LOAN’S BACK!

Amanda, a communications major who graduated from a major University this year,
was fortunate enough to land a decent entry level job at the Rachael Raye show.
However, after she pays her rent, electricity, cable, phone, etc etc  bills,
the $600 per month for student loans she has to pay back is unaffordable.

What should she do?
The answer may surprise you.

If anyone has read the book “The Secret” or seen the movie or watched Oprah
when she was talking “The Secret” or has the DVD, then you know that the
secret to getting whatever you want in life is to “focus on what you want.”

Huh?

You see, you have to stay focused on exactly what you want.
So the first thing that needs to be done is to…

Figure out EXACTLY what you want.

Most people Never do this and it is the secret to success.
Consequently and unconsciously, people focus on what they don’t want.

For example, when I asked Amanda what she wanted, she said…
she wanted the bill collectors to stop calling and harassing her.

That’s not really what she wants.

She is focusing on what she doesn’t want. She DOESN’T want the bill collectors
to call her. So by not focusing on what she wants, she’s automatically focusing
on what she doesn’t want and manifest MORE of that into her life.
Hence, more bill collector calls.

I’ll get deeper into the law of attraction at another time.
But for now here is some practical advice…

Paying off college loans can seem like a next to impossible task.
Each year, more people graduate with increasing levels of debt.
This is largely due to the fact that college is expensive.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve graduated from a state school, private college,
or community college. Most people have some level of debt associated
with getting a degree. Now the trick is how you’re going to pay for it.

Depending on the type of loan you have, repayment options are many.
Some people are so overwhelmed by the total amount of the debt,
that they rarely see the various types of repayment options that are available.

A good suggestion is to stay focused on the monthly payment versus the total sum
of what you owe. This should make the idea of repayment more manageable.

If you are a recent grad and you’re wondering exactly how you are going to pay off
your loans, don’t despair. There are a variety of methods you can use.

One of the most popular and effective is student loan consolidation.
Using student loan consolidation, you group your loans into a single loan
which often reduces your monthly payment amount.

Yankee Hanky Panky - No Thanky

November 3rd, 2009

Since I’m a Native New Yorker and everyone in New York City
is talking about the NY Yankees, I feel compelled to write about the game.

Although the Yanks did not have the “Happy Ending” that men desire,
it was still an exciting, sit on the edge of your seat ball game.

AJ Burnett, the Yankee’s pitcher on 3 day rest, lasted only 2+ innings.
Chase Utley blasted a 3 run homer in the 3rd and the Phillies took the lead 3-1.

When the Philly carnage was finished, Burnett gave up 6 runs, walked 4,
was constantly behind in counts and was finally ousted in the 3rd inning.

Then, in the 7th inning Chase Utley went deep again for his second homer
of the game (tying Reggie Jackson’s world series 5 homer record).
Score 7-2 Phillies.

Before the inning was ended, Philadelphia blasted another solo homer making
the score a heartbreaking 8-2. At that point, it looked like the game was over
for New York.

However, In the top of the ninth inning, the Yankee electricity began to flow.
The score was now 8-5 and the Yankees had 2 men on base with…
the Savior - Derek Jeter at bat.

Derelict Jeter hit into a double play.
But a run was scored making it 8-6.

Hideki Matsui then cracks a base hit keeping hope alive. A Homer would tie it up.
But just like in the poem - there was no joy in Mudville…
The Mighty Casey has struck out and the Yankees lost 8-6.

But, that’s OK.

The Yanks want to win in their home town in their new stadium.
Phillies Folly will be on Wednesday!

The Yankees will be heading back home and resting up on Tuesday.
I will be writing about SEX. Make sure you bookmark this site and check back!
