Re: A Stroke Ain’t No Joke

I received this comment from a reader of this blog yesterday.
It was regarding a post from a couple days ago:

A Stroke Ain’t No Joke
I thought I should share it and make a comment…

Here it the comment in it’s entirety…Your advice about the stoke victim should be removed. If someone is having a stroke, you call 911 ASAP and wait for the ambulance,
with the person being still. To prick them with needles and wait for them
to become conscious is totally crazy!Sticking needles and waiting for them to bleed droplets has nothing to do
with stopping a stroke. Go to a real medical website, and dont advise people
to take this “excellent tip” cause it is not based on anyone who is really having
a stroke.

Dont move him or the capillaries will burst, yet move him to sit them up??
Stick a needle into 10 fingertips and wait till all are dripping blood?
Make the earlobes bleed? How long will all this take? 30-40 minutes?
Wait till they regain consciousness? What if they never do?

No mention of calling 911 at all! I know 2 people who had severe strokes
and both are in sorry shape. If anyone did this bloodletting thing to them,
they would have been dead.

Sorry to sound so mean, but i really think its bad advise for a stroke victim.

Thank You for your comment Joan.

First off, let me reiterate, I’m not a doctor or medical person.
I don’t know the source of where the email came from.

I don’t know whether the information is legit or a hoax.
I am not advising anyone to try this method.

And for the record, I did NOT call it an “excellent tip” as you insinuate.
It’s just an email I received and I am passing it along for information only.

If a person is having a stroke, call 911 or an ambulance… ASAP.

That being said, let me say this…
The blind piano player I referred to in the post A Stroke Ain’t No Joke
was taken to the hospital immediately.

He survived but didn’t fully recover from the stroke.

He totally lost his piano playing ability and half his memory.
The 2 people that you refer to - and I quote…

“I know 2 people who had severe strokes and both are in sorry shape.”

Perhaps if someone had tried the procedure on them while they were
waiting for the ambulance to arrive, they might not be in such sorry shape.
I don’t know, but I doubt it would have done any worse harm.
