and shape up your abdominals or any other problem area, “spot training”
is rarely effective. Losing stomach fat and flattening your belly is mainly
a matter of overall healthy exercise and eating habits.
Combine this with an understanding of how your body works and you CAN
see the pounds of bodyfat melt away
The Number One Way to Lose Body Fat…
I hate to be the bearer of bad news (good news depending on your outlook)
but the number way to shed those excess pounds is EXERCISE.
Specifically, aerobic exercise. Aerobic activity burns body fat.
Years ago, I was an aerobic instructor at Jack LaLannes’ Health Spa (now Ballys).
I taught 2 to 3 classes a day, 5 daya a week.
I ate whatever I wanted without being excessive but eating relatively healthy.
After about a year of this regimen, I was cut, shredded, ripped-to-the-bone as they say
in the bodybuilding vernacular. I had a Bruce Lee, no fat type physique.
My bodyfat percentage was low and my energy level was high.
So, if you’re looking for that six-pack ab physique, you should know that the only way
to achieve it is to do what EVERY diet program on the market tells you.
The secret is DIET and EXERCISE.
But you really have to do both. That’s the only way To lose body fat and to expose
the rippling abdominal muscles underneath.
Can you do 1,000 sit-ups a day or use miracle ab machines (like the as seen on TV
Ab Rocket and others (that promise you flat abs in weeks) and lose fat in just one
specific area? … NO!
At least it’s highly unlikely. The body just doesn’t work that way.
You burn fat from all over the body, not just one spot.
These strategies will help you get rid of those love handles and beer belly for good.
1. Exercise. You can’t exercise to spot reduce but it will help you shed excess pounds
and some of the fat your body sheds first comes from your tummy.
Abdominal crunches, sit-ups, side bends etc, can help tone muscles to make your stomach
look flatter. But to get rid of bodyfat, you have to burn it off through aerobic activity.
On the bright side, if you like to play tennis or raquetball, bicycle or jog, go hiking
or take aerobic classes or swim, these are all aerobic activities. Not only are these activities fun,
these activities burn bodyfat and they also strengthen your heart muscle.
If you’re really out of shape and your only activity is getting up to get the remote control
to flip TV channels, start off by walking. Start off slowly and build up distance and speed.
Every extra step counts. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk to the store
instead of driving, do whatever is convenient and comfortable for you. (Check with
your doctor first before you start any exercise program).
Then, keep it up everyday. Do some walking everyday. If you do this over a lifetime,
it doesn’t have to be drudgery. It just becomes part of a healthy lifestyle.
Put some headphones on as you take a daily stroll and listen to some of your favorite
music to relax. Stress will age you. If you’re the go-getter, workaholic type and can’t find
time for a daily constitutional, listen to the news or seminars and lectures while you’re
walking and educate yourself and get work done as you walk.
